You cant legally run two logs... If you get pulled over, and hand the officer your Qualcomm and your paper logs you may still get a ticket even if they match

That being said, on our week out with a driver at SNI, we kept "two" logs. One was the legal log and the other was the, "do you know what you're doing" log. If your company is asking that of you i would be curious to know why.

Is it a log if you don't sign it or fill out the pertinent info like truck number, carrier, etc? Or what if you write SAMPLE, PRACTICE, or even VOID over the graph.

Nothing wrong with two logs as long as they are identical.

You should always carry paper logs in the truck even if you have elog. If elog fails for whatever reason you have the ability to log right then and there. I had to do paper logs and elog at the same time once. The company wanted to cross match both to insure there was no bugs in their computer logging system. A select number of drivers had to do it before they would put the system into place before going company wide. The paper log was the official log when driving. The elog was not because it wasn't being used by the company as the official logging system for compliance. Which ever one is being used for auditing by your company is the one you hand to DOT.

Wrong. There are actually circumstances where the regulations may REQUIRE you as a driver to have multiple logs (i.e. if you drive for multiple carriers, EACH carrier needs a RODS from you with THEIR company info on it to keep on file). As long as the time grid and notations all match up (adjusting for time zone differences if needed), it is perfectly legal.

You're going to have to use paper with Elogs, what if 10 hours into you day, your Elog quits, what are you going to do then?

swift has the trainees use paperlogs and elogs while with the mentors. swift has them write sample practice on the paperlogs. elogs are the logs they show to dot.

I had my logs checked when my qualcom had been malfunctioning. I had been on paper for 2 weeks and had just had my qualcom replaced. I decided it would be smart to at least finish that day on paper before going back to the qualcom. I had paperwork to prove the qualcom was replaced just hours before. The DOT officer understood (thankfully I had paperwork to prove the QC had been replaced just hrs before) that and he was fine with it. He explained that it IS actually legal to have more than 1 logging system but they must match perfectly. If there is any difference between the 2 you can be in big trouble. I didn't ask what the penalty would be he just used the words "big trouble"
