It's just a button push so wouldn't really be that inconvenient. Makes for a goofy looking rods at the end of the day, but who cares. But that doesn't mean the time card isn't a valid option if it works for you. Just remember it's a 100 air mile radius (i think, again doesn't apply to me so only pay it so much attention)

Your right about a lot of this. Mainly the spineless part. Each and everyone of us have been put in the position of get it there no matter what. With the forced mandate I see a lot of that going away. I also see the negative of now being forced to work a rolling shift. Which I think is worse than running an hour or two longer than you should. I think there are some positives and some negatives. The fact still remains this is about compliance. Noncompliance is what got us to this point. Don't kid yourself, there were guys running 18 and 20 hours a day. This is what brought about drug testing and the advent of the CDL. I use to not run a log book because it was a cheaper ticket than a falsifying log book ticket. I am just as guilty as anyone. That's the way I was brought up as a driver. Those days are gone, and I don't miss them.

This needs clarification. Funny how the 3.5 million inspections didn't warrant capital letters.

Per the FMCSA pocketbook attached, roughly 3,500,000 driver inspections resulting in roughly 375,000 log violations. Of the 375,000 violations, 150,000 were GF&M. 100,000 were OOS. So 5% were real log violations and 2% were OOS. Whoop De Doo.

i do agree that its just pushing a buttion would not be the end of the world but when your shuttling 30 loads 6 miles in a 12 hour day if i could i would assume write down a start and end time and be done rather than press a button over 60 times in a day.

Fairly certain it requires a bit more than just jotting down start and end times.

5% is a huge number when in the context of millions of inspections. It was obviously big enough to get the attention of the lawmakers. The sample size was large enough to apply it to the entire industry. 1 in 20 trucks violate hos on a regular basis. That's why we have elogs. Not because of swift and prime hiring people to dumb to do math.

No, the ATA and lobbyists (elog manufacturers) slid enough money under the table to get their attention.

Oh please. To what benefit? So the competition could no longer violate the hos? Again, if the violation record wasn't there that wouldn't have spurred congress into action.

I'm not sure on this, but i bet highway safety advocacy groups got a lot more pull with Congress than ata and qualcomm do.

Elogs are nothing more than a Congressional reach around. Good thing I have a 93. Just because you have an old truck does not mean that they run illegal. With fuel stops, ports of entry and all that getting tied together, not worth the risk. Scale house may not catch it but audits can.

Pretty obvious if you ask me. I remember seeing something from OOIDA or some other trucking news source that the head of the ATA actually said they wanted this to level the playing field. Where do you think that term came from anyway? As for the elog manufacturers, pretty obvious what they will gain from this. Money, and a #### ton of it. They're all sitting back salivating at what they're going to make off of this. From the sales of apps/devices to the monthly fees, the profits these companies are going to make are huge.
