Elogs for 1 or 2 truck operations...

    The way your hours of service here run. Am I correct in that once your clock starts regardless if you shutdown for an hour or two kip that's still included in your 14 hours?

    Correct, the only thing which stops the 14 hour clock is 8 or more hours on line 2, sleeper berth.

    That's more retarded than coke in a single malt scotch. In AUS. We shutdown our logbook even if we are sitting at the dock waiting to be loaded. Your working if your securing your load. Opening/closing curtains and getting on off dock paperwork. I used to add 30 minutes to time from when I would pull up and same 30 minutes before departing to allow for it. Still left me with 13 hours for driving. I would regularly run 16-18 hour days on a 14 hour logbook. But when your 14 is up go-to bed for 7 hours minimum.

    It's not unusual to see someone sitting in the seat for long periods waiting for the nanny box to show they can legally drive.

    I honestly thought my mate was taking the piss outta me when he said even a 4 hour break is part of it once your book is started.. but yet it's legal to drive at 4am while dead tired because zyrcadiam rythym says you shouldn't be awake, all because some clown wearing a tie thinks that's smart.

    Perhaps they need to be put in a truck and made do it.....

    i thought i was going to be exempt for a while as well. and don't like the idea of a electric nanny in the truck i don't really run any crazy hours anymore but will occasionally run a little over or start a little sooner than i should when it suites me to get a better nights rest.

    going to wait till the last possible min to actually put a e-log in my truck. the only upside i see to e-logs is i still do my ifta pen and paper if i get a e-log that records all your ifta data for you that would be a plus.

    biggest downside for me, is i don't like to be on the road much past midnight or before 3am not only is that when i get my most restful sleep too much bad stuff happens at that time. my dad died in a car accident at that time of night then 2 months 1 day later first day back in the truck i had a car run a red light and drive under my trailer. and many other instances as well. the car running the red light was the last time i was on the road in that time frame. with e-logs im sure it wont stay that way.

    Why would E-Logs make you drive between midnight and 0300 where paper logs wouldn't?

    really?

    the most common example for me would be i need to be somewhere 6am monday morning. i am at home Sunday. where i need to be is 5 hours away. would mean i would have to leave at 1am.

    so what i will normally do in that case is i will leave home at 7pm get there at midnight and hit the bunk for 6 hours. then i get to sleep when i rest well rather rather than leaving at 1am when i don't want to be on the road let alone i would probably only get maybe a couple hours of sleep at best and it wouldn't be as good of sleep

    If I didn't want to drive between those times, I'd get up at 0300 every day. I'd hit the road by 0400, then I'd shut down at or before 1730. Then I would sleep in until 0300 and repeat the process.

    I would not accept loads that pickup or deliver between those times. I would not accept loads that I could not legally do. I would even give myself extra time for flexibility, because trucking happens.

    So yes, really.

    I would leave 2 hours earlier and then use the 8/2 split.
