    As long as you are compliant with the rest of the HOS. E-logs won't prevent you from continuing to do was you described. Just stay in the sleeper for another 2 hrs for an even 8 split and keep the rest of the 14 you started when you left at 7 pm. Or do a hard 10, to start a new 14.

    a free copy of KeepTrucking (out of DOT man's sight) will help you understand the 8/2 split and avoid violations...if you still running paper logs

    yeah but who wants to leave home sooner than you actually need to....lol not saying i cant make it work but it will be a inconvenience at times. but situations as i described are the most common for me to fudge the books a little. the drive line for me is almost never the issues, its ether the 14 or the 10 that gets fudged a bit from time to time. and its normally done to what suits me to be more comfortable/productive not done to push further than i should witch is what hos and elogs are supposed to be preventing.

    i have been thinking of of getting a electronic log that's not a e-log that is fully editable to use to kinda get the idea of what it would be like to be on e-logs.

    Great point. Still on paper logs but starting to familiarize myself with what options are out there in the event the mandate stands. What other ELD's are capable of providing IFTA reporting?

    Do the same thing, but hit the bunk for 8 hours instead of 6. We are talking a difference of 2 hours. Not exactly a huge deal.

    @Ezrider_48501

    KeepTrucking app is fully editable (smartphone/tablet) until you electronically 'sign' a given day.

    Once you do "sign" u cannot re-edit it.

    Also, it keeps hidden gps bread crumbs if you keep it open while driving. These "bread crumbs" are only visible when you log in from a computer.

    I actually think the HOS should be changed to a 16 hour day with an 8 hour break. Maybe they could give us a 30 minute interruption of our break or something in case we have to move during it. There are things that could be implemented to help legitimate concerns without compromising the spirit of the law, which I see as aimed to prevent fatigued drivers from being behind the wheel.

    But without a way to enforce the rules, they are useless. As long as people are dying because of fatigue, something should be there to help track and help deter it from happening.

    I feel like E-Logs are not the problem, and they're also being unjustly demonized. They are painted as useless for anything other than IFTA, but I find them extremely useful. They are accurate, quick, and easy to use. People want to be able to edit their mistakes, but they're under the impression that you can't. But if you forget to switch your duty status, you can still go back and change it.

    The issue of cost is a valid concern, although I feel it is trivial. If the government is going to mandate this, they should provide us with the logging tools at no cost. With that being said, $20-50 bucks a month shouldn't kill anyone's business that wasn't already set to fail. Then consider that the money for the devices would have to come from somewhere anyway, likely the taxpayers. We would still end up paying for it. Is it fair that people outside of the transportation industry are burdened with these costs?

    you got to remember too a lot of us have never used a e-log we don't really know what to expect and don't necessarily want to change the way we do things. as far as cost goes, no i don't think the government should be expected to pay for it, although by principle i don't like the government to tell me that i must pay for a service as well. the cost isn't the big issue to me.

    each little thing adds up its not just 20 dollars here and then add another 30 there and 550 over there, but you add them all up and it just becomes that much more of a jumbled mess you have to jump threw. trucking is already bad enough we need less restriction not more in our already flawed system.

    If that link works that's Australian Advanced fatigue management laws. Works perfectly. You breach them rules you deserve the $434 per breach fine. Minimal hours allowed between 00:00 and 05:00
