Good luck adapting new-cab electronics to anything old enough to take advantage of an ELD exemption. LMAO!!

My profile pic is a 1989 Kenworth T600. It's newer cousin, T660, uses a similar cab. There's not a chance in heII you'll make that new cab speak to the engine or chassis on my '89. Or if by some chance you could pull it off, well, we know truckers aren't exactly a bottomless pit of funding.

No kidding. Even then it would have to be reinspected by the state and prolly being retitled as well due to the fact the factory wouldnt build you a cab for that truck anyways.

Just going to KW and buying a new cab doeant prove that it goes on that truck. At that point i bet it would have to recieve a modified title....

I drove professionally for 3 years OR. So I do know the regs for logs. And yes I work for RM so no need to dig at me again Snowwy. I have been on TTR since 2007.

The simple fact is ELD's are mandated in Dec of this year. So either you learn the ELD rules as they apply to ELD'S or you will be in violation. Rules now for paper Rods are the same as ELD'S. same driving hours, same 14hr day, etc.

So harp all you want but the regulations are the same. ELD'S will simply replace Paper RODS with some exemptions.

So what about the 15 minute increments on paper? Sometimes there are round up or round down situations were it might make the difference of getting loaded, unloaded or home LEGALLY.

3 years? Ok, im not knocking you at all. You ever sat in a refinery for 2 to 18 hours waiting to get loaded? Simple question.

I dont pull vans, i dont pull reefers, and not coast to coast. Im local. 400 mile radius. Alot of setting and waiting. Why is my time any less important.

Also, again. I dont want one, i dont need one. Why in the hell should i HAVE to have one. Last log book violation was about 10 years ago for not having the date right. Oops, mistake. No big deal. I run LEGALLY. I HAVE to because all my bol's have the time on them.

Some of you guys act like just because some of us dont want a stupid ELD we are outlaws and dangerous. NOT TRUE.

I ran paper and logged legally... yes the round up or down came in handy sometimes...

I have my fair share of long unloads.. longest was 24 hours since they took one pallet off at a time and separated the pallet... reefer... was only 30 miles from my house.

I can see issues with ELD's and I try to read the regulations and understand the reasoning behind them.. PC is a big fuzzy window for example.

The ELD is not a "one stop" shopping for all aspects of trucking. Trucking cannot be lumped into so simple. But, how will they be able to provide exemptions for every situation. So, they basically took the Paper ROD and moved it electronically.

I see "outlaws" all the time running on I-40 and I-77... but then again I see a vast majority of Professional Drivers that think before they act..

O/O's will have to spend money on an ELD and the monthly service that goes along with it. L/P's may fall also into this aspect.

What will hurt is that the generation that is learning on ELD's will never know how to do a Paper ROD. If their ELD quits, then to paper they go, but there is a window that the ELD can be down.

I do not lump drivers as "outlaws" simply because they do not want the ELD, but it is coming and it will create more questions that can be answered. Nothing changes in the way the HOS are run except the ELD logs minutes now.

I would love to run an ELD in my car but it will not connect to my port. I need to see how it operates simply for my own benefit and to assist those later down the line with questions.

Any e login device even apps for smartphone run the same as eld that connects to ECM you don't have to have it connected to learn.
And yes, I'm one of those that you call outlaws, but running legally doesn't pay my bills, most of which are to keep my truck running and in safe conditions, I wish I'd make enough working 70 hours week. At the momoment I drive 100+ hours, I book my freight, and do billing, I do all the operations my self, and I can't afford to run less then 100 hours.

That I understand, the App part, but I need to know the ELD interaction and the devices how they operate with the software and the portal.

I haven't seen ELD of any type yet, believe they have different user interface, since there are many of them, DDL is an app that can be used as ELD providing that it is connected to your ECM, there is an cable that can connect your phone to ECM port available, I can't tell you how makes them I just don't remember the name, and you can use DDL app as ELD, it is absolutely legal. But one difference between just a simple E-LOGING, and ELD is that it will change your duty status automatically once you start moving, and the logs will be saved to the cloud with no access for you to make any corrections.

Running reefer this year average $2.00 for loaded, if have to deadhead more then 200 miles it'll pay not less then $2 for all the miles including deadhead, just get a bit unfortunate with the truck over $100k in repairs in 2 years and keep adding
