I don't know. I seem to remember reading and article that addressed this in overdrive or landline or one of those publications as well as being told this by a shop when inquiring about the logic behind the cutoff year. Admittedly it's an item I haven't fact checked to be able to provide you a source.

The 2000 cut off was nothing but an arbitrary number picked out of a hat. -

The $15 a month I pay now for the BigRoad non-ELD version is way worth it's cost in gold to me. It's easy and fast to use, I never have a form & manner error and the ability to save my logs and store them on my Google Cloud Drive is tremendous.
I just had my first FMCSA audit on Thursday of last week. I wanted to have 6 months of logs with me, so I copied the pdf storage files of logs onto a thumb drive, took it to my local Staples, plugged the thumb drive into the commercial printer, hit print and 5 minutes later I had 6 mos of beautifully printed logs, collated and ready to go.
When I showed the logs to the auditor she was so impressed she literally only looked at 1 log and matched 1 fuel receipt to the log and closed the file.
That alone was worth way more than the $15 a month I payredoctober83 and Oxbow Thank this. -
