I don't know. I seem to remember reading and article that addressed this in overdrive or landline or one of those publications as well as being told this by a shop when inquiring about the logic behind the cutoff year. Admittedly it's an item I haven't fact checked to be able to provide you a source.

Yeah but could you still get one in 99? Cat stopped altogether in '08 or whatever but there were still new trucks with new cat motors as late as '11.

Gliders. But no new trucks with cat after they stopped in 07 or whenever it was.

The 2000 cut off was nothing but an arbitrary number picked out of a hat.

Well, OOIDA fought the mandate on a couple of different fronts, including the "financial burden" angle and still lost. ELD's are a reality in a few months.

The $15 a month I pay now for the BigRoad non-ELD version is way worth it's cost in gold to me. It's easy and fast to use, I never have a form & manner error and the ability to save my logs and store them on my Google Cloud Drive is tremendous.

I just had my first FMCSA audit on Thursday of last week. I wanted to have 6 months of logs with me, so I copied the pdf storage files of logs onto a thumb drive, took it to my local Staples, plugged the thumb drive into the commercial printer, hit print and 5 minutes later I had 6 mos of beautifully printed logs, collated and ready to go.

When I showed the logs to the auditor she was so impressed she literally only looked at 1 log and matched 1 fuel receipt to the log and closed the file.

That alone was worth way more than the $15 a month I pay ;-)

Well glad my form and manner is up to par because over the last 96 months I've not spent $1440 for a computer to do something I'm capable of doing.

It's your money, do with it what you want.

It's my money, I'll do with it what I want.

    Fair enough?

Unless you decide to call it quits, you will be using electronic logs in a few months.

No it cannot be said for every industry. This law was lobbied for by the Meg's because they saw an advantages but they didn't want the disadvantages that came with them. It's anti competitive and corrupt.

Can you imagine if Domino's and pizza pizza got together a lobbied the govt to tell Papa John's they have to use a machine to count the pepperoni.
