ELogs are the coming trend, and I'm trying to figure out how to save my logs now. My tax guy has me bring in the year's logbooks so he can do a quick visual and say "yes, I saw those logbooks". I kept track of my days out by writing the number on the back of each book, that option is gone now.
I know I can fax out of the Qualcomm, but that costs an arm and a leg. Qualcomm says they keep 6 months of logs on their site, but it's a rolling 6 months. If I log in say in July, January will be gone. I'm one of those people who keep forgetting to do things...
What's everybody else doing? Printing? Faxing? Praying the IRS won't audit? lol
ELogs how are you saving your logs for tax purposes?

I get hard copies every QTR for my own records.
Strider Thanks this. -
My company doesn't provide copies because QC says they have 6 months worth. I'd like to find a place to email them to or something like that.
I didn't mean to post this in the O/O section, btw, but I guess it's something we all need to know, right? -
My guy won't let me email mine but I can fax them to the office and have them put in my mail box..... no charge. I could also fax them to the house.....and some do, once a week.

Just because the truck is equipped with an EOBR doesn't mean one has to quit paper logging. These logs would still meet your tax preparer's requirements, while providing a sound backup for when the EOBR goes down.
Being totally unfamiliar with EOBR's, I can't say whether the units have a port, say USB, where one could plug in and download the eLogs to your OWN hard drive either your laptop, or to a portable external drive you carry for that purpose, which you can then print from, or not.
If there IS no direct out, might you access your eLogs online, at no charge, either from company files or Qualcomm? If so, periodically make your own copies.
I just now watched an online video by "Snorelord" the first one I happened upon:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EyRWmLd-es&feature=player_embedded
Nowhere does a direct access port enter his primer, and he also demonstrates how one would go about having the logs faxed to a DOT number, so it's unlikely there IS such a port. Interesting If there IS no way to access one's log at no cost, and I wouldn't doubt Qualcomm designed it to be this way, then there exists an opportunity for some enterprising individual or company to design an EOBR which monitors the Qualcomm EOBR. A male/female plug matching the wiring harness , inserted between truck and EOBR could record all data to and from the Qualcomm unit, and would serve not only as a backup, but would save companies and O/O's from paying the Qualcomm FAX charges by allowing direct download of the data
An even simpler device (Read-less expensive) could be designed to intercept outgoing data from the EOBR locally, and transfer this to your storage device. Again, this could save on FAX charges to the company and trucker...
No clue if this ramble helps whatsoever but I thank you for asking the question. It's gotten me to thinking

Ive never had to show Logs to justify anything tax related,I claim $40
per day(and have for over 20 years) per X days out and then done with it.
I do a 1099 just like my employees and have never had an issues getting
a full refund, even though a few things were stretched a little bit -
I continue to use Drivers Daily Log software on my computer in addition to the Qualcom.
I Ike having it all right there at my fingertips even years back in time. I also find it easier to project available hours and split sleeper berth using that program. -
Logs are not really required. Other things can easily be used. -
I guess some just have to have the warm fuzzy feelin
