Tater hit the nail on the head. Paper logs are only used to support nights away from home to claim per diem. A simple freebie calendar with checkmarks (for days away from home) would work just as well. At tax time just add up the check marks.
No one is going to ask to see the actual logs, but I might keep the little calendars for support in the unlikely event of an audit. -

It seems to me it would depend on where you run. Some areas I go the per diem is $108/day. I keep mine in case of an audit.

ok, so I run e-logs. People net with my current company, an zata with my previous employer from the begging of the year. I do not have any record of my logs for the entire year of 2010. With my job from the begging of the year I ran team, so I would log my 10 hours in the berth. Problem is I have no idea how many days I actually worked an logged time in the berth, can I just estimate those days for the standard deduction? Also with my current job I am home daily, when I go home I log off duty, can I log my self in the berth (an still go home) to be able to qualify for the standard deduction?

Werner has had e-logs for what seems like forever these days, and they always mailed copies to my house once a year. Right around tax time, interestingly enough...but I think you had to sign up for this service.
