This is correct, and so far the least confusing of all the explanations.

A good 5 days. And then it's home time.

Why would a post trip cut your driving time?

I was just getting ready to write the same exact words. The term "WINDOW" means the range of time something can be done. There is no such thing as an 11 hour window. You can work an 11 hour limit, within the 14 hour window. That 14 hour window can contain any duty status, including sleeper, Off Duty, or On duty. The only thing that stops the 14 hour window, is if you take a sleeper break of 8 hours or more. In that case, you have the same amount of time left on your 11 hour driving limit, and 14 hour window, as you had when you started the 8 hr sleeper break.

For instance, if you start at midnight, you can work till 2 PM, with a limit of 11 hrs of driving in that time period. If you start a sleeper break after driving 6 hrs within a 7 hour period, and take an 8 hr sleeper break, you still have 5 hrs driving time left, to be done within 7 hours. Most E-logs will adjust your times automatically when you reach 8 hours of sleeper time. In most cases, you would be better to just get a full 10 hr break, if you already have 8 of it, but sometimes you have to use that time to meet a delivery deadline.

Because in his example he has already used up all of his 14 hours but the few he has left. If he is trying to stay with the 14 hour limit he would have to cut short his driving time. Still, you can work past your 14, just not drive. He could work 14.25 for that day.

Exactly, so doing a post trip wouldn't affect his driving time.

You can drive 11 out of 14. You can work forever. Line 3 max is 11 out of 14 after at least 10 in lines 1 or 2. Line 4 has no max you just can not drive till you take a 10 in 1 or 2.

You are forgetting you need to do a pretrip before driving . That would take away from your driving time if you spend more than 3 hours on duty .

No, he cannot legally drive. He wouldn't have any time left on his 11 hr clock but would have one hour left on his 14. Logging off duty still eats away your 14 hour clock.

Thanks everyone for setting me straight. Now I can get more miles! 'Cept I don't get paid by miles.. hehehee

But I am the kind of guy that feels bad about this because I was not giving 100% to my company. Just a little bad, since I was not cheating them on purpose.

And the good news is I was not running illegal with my misinterpretation!

    Thanks again.
