That outlook is probably one of the reasons industry is getting bad rap nowadays.

I drove for the first time this Thursday you are right down shifting is hard, you have a lot of stuff going thru your mind at one time. I am sure it will get easier.

The test is so much easier than the study material for haz-mat. Some of us have been out of school for many years, and simply do not memorize easily. We cram for the test hoping to take pride in a job well done. Then, the test is too easy and does not separate out those drivers who may have trouble reading the rule book on the job. I am not hauling haz-mat, but assume that many drivers rely on advice from their dispatcher and the shipper. Of course, the driver is responsible.

Well, thanks for all the good posts. Passed my CDL drive tests and start orientation monday in Pacific, Wa.

As negative as some post are on this board about driving (yet still on a truck driving forum posting) I am excited about my new path....

I have been self employed for over 30 yrs and have done the six figure thing, now I am just looking forward to being a professional driver, and although the company I picked isn't the highest pay they are one of the safest, at my age that is important.

again thanks for all the great replies..:yes2557:

Downshifting uphill: it will be easier if you watch your RPM's and don't let them fall below 1500. If you miss the gear, go to the next lowest immeadiately. You only get one chance to hit a gear uphill or down. Hope that helps.
