Hey guys, I'm just trying to find out for 2015 how much you guys are making on average, how long you been driving, average miles, what you haul (flatbed, reefer, etc), and who you drive (company, Owner Op, Lease Op) to get a consensus of some of the best places that a new driver can aspire to work towards, and possibly replicate.
Example:
OO, 7 yrs, 2400 miles, $5000 gross, $2000 net, flatbed
or
Walmart, 12 yrs, 1800 miles, $2100 gross, $1600 net, reefer
This would give me and other newbie drivers some inspiration. Also gives us a starting point and goal to aim towards and eventually get to if they choose to take that path!
I have 3+ experience, but have not drove in the last 4 years, so it seems like a needle in a haystack trying to find a good company that pays well. Your input will help me and others make more informed decisions.
Thanks
Employer, weekly GROSS & NET income, experience, miles, haul type for 2015?

First job.. RE WEST, low paying company I started at .26 and I averaged $400-$600 paychecks.
OTR and I unloaded water heaters out of trailers too. It was .26 but I figured it was more like .20 based on the miles I actually drive.
It was crap but hey gotta start somewhere right? Got some experience and then GTFO.
Well my last job was with Crete pulling a reefer when I had less than one year experience and I got .43 per mile.
Averaged $1150-$1300 working a full week there.
One year experience pays .48.
They paid practical mile and my driven and paid miles were close.
Overall I can't complain about them because I made decent money for it being an OTR company driver job and I was still a noob.
Got one year experience and went to Schneider to lease a truck through them and lease onto them doing their % Choice program where I pick my loads off a load board. After my new truck payment , fixed and fuel costs usually I'm anywhere between $2000-$3300 a week after expenses mainly depending on how motivated I am and what kind of rates I get. A couple weeks ago I got real lucky on loads and cleared over $4000 after expenses but that's extremely rare.
My own personal average and goal I aim for is $2500 a week . Bare in mind I stay where the money is and run it as OTR.
Try to knock that out a few weeks and then go home or take time off and do something fun.Pacific Islander Thanks this. -
Since my company only serves dedicated accounts, each account pays differently. My account is electrical supplies. But we have car parts as well.
There is no way each division can compare to one another.
My yearly pay is not something I wish to discuss. Except to say my company DEMANDS no less than 5 years experience and pays us well for it. And we hardly ever hire.
However for what might be an average for a new driver, first year, maybe under $35,000 then up. Each company will have requirements, bonus pays, etc, etc, that a new driver has to meet. In order for YOU to get a better idea on pay, YOU need to contact the companies you have an interest in.Pacific Islander Thanks this. -

Superior Carriers, chemical tanker, $.50 loaded/.40 empty + accessorial, started here with 18mos exp but they do hire newbies, I run OTR mostly. With accessory and layover pay a slow week can pay almost as much as a busy week. YTD I have grossed almost $40k so 60-70 is doable even for a newb because we are all paid the same rate.
Steel Dragon, Pacific Islander and freightwipper Thank this.
