It's only 10 years if he worked jobs that were subject to FMCSA regulations. For anything else the requirement is only 3 years.

Prime gets tons of applications, so they generally just reject any application that isn't exactly what they want. It DOES NOT mean you can't work for other really good companies. My preference in cases like yours is for you to take the time necessary and get your work history on paper, gaps and all, with letters from people who can confirm your activities when not employed, and then CAREFULLY find your first company. Nothing helps overcome doubts about your work history like a full year or two with your first company. I fear if you rush into whoever will hire you you'll find they are not treating you well and you will start bouncing among numerous companies which will NOT make getting on with better companies any easier.

I saw this question some hours ago. I wanted to watch it because I knew there would be some good information put in the replies. Now I want to try to explain why these carriers are so tough. The FMCSA is tough on the carriers during audits. I have heard of safety dept heads actually wetting themselves just having FMCSA auditors Identifying themselves. The problem is those driver qualification files and 391.23. The FMCSA is not kidding around with this information. The thing is the FMCSA does not prohibit breaks in employment. They only want that time accounted for. Some carriers overreact to this and it takes almost an act of Congress to get them to look at someone with gaps. When you have gaps fill in the application with those gaps accounted for. List the dates and why you were not working.

This is good advice. I don't want to be with a company that isn't treating me right. I am pretty resilient though and will make sure I complete my contractual obligations to the company because I don't want to have to pay that $3k out of pocket for the cdl tuition. I have heard good and bad things about CRE and swift also but at this point I'm willing to take my chances, because other places look down on part time employment.

Yeah, I can have my time accounted for going back 5 years, anything past that would be difficult to explain and account for. Hopefully someone will accept me without going back that far, but yeah that makes sense on why they want all time accounted for. Thank you for that information.

They asked for my last 3 w2 forms and they seen how much I made and asked what else I did to support myself. So they kind of figured it out that it was part time. He said "prime isn't going to be a good company for you to start out in" I asked why and he said because they need full time employment history. Its messed up because it doesn't say that on their website or application.
