I have worked for a landscaping company for the last 10+ years and have been paid cash only no 1099 ever. How do I prove employment history?

Prime wants honest hard workers. You can't prove you worked. You can only prove you're dishonest.

No it proves that my employer was dishonest. They issue the 1099 right I cant just make one up. How does that make me dishonest?

You could get a letter from your employer stating the time of your employment. Carriers usually fax a release signed by the potential employee (you) to give your former employer permission to verify your employment. If you have tax returns for the last 3 years, that can also help verify your employment. I have a habit of making photo copies of any checks that I receive. If you have stubs or any sort of proof of pay, that can also help verify your employment. Just because someone pays or receives compensation and is issued a 1099, doesn't make either party dishonest. If that were the case, every owner operator who is leased to a carrier could be considered dishonest.

Yes it's your employers responsibility to issue a 1099, but just because they didn't does not relieve you of the responsibility to file taxes. There's even a box right on the form to check if you don't receive a W-2 or 1099 or whatever. There are other occupations that work in cash only jobs (some waiters/waitresses are tips only, some stylists are tips only, etc.) Typically they don't receive 1099s or W-2s but they still have to file taxes. Your landscaping job is no different.

Anyway, back to the point, I'd say you're right about going back to landscaping. From what you've said here you're going to have a very difficult time passing any job verification process.
