I'm picking up 2 empty 20' cans tomorrow and was wonderiń what the protocol is for securing them to my flatbed?? I've ran loaded ones and always chained the corners down but as I was reading thru a securement book I came across a page that says if they are empty I can just use straps?? Makes sense seekng they will be about 10k gross each. Anyone else ever used straps??

I used straps on the one I carried... But that was with chains. Container was loaded with glass. Used four straps if I recall correctly

Last one I hauled was chain at conors and a strap in middle.
Containers are one of the worst thing to haul.
    I avoid mostly.

I've hauled those PODS before and just used straps although I don't remember what they weighed.

Why would u say they are the worst thing to haul?? Empty cans couldn't be any easier I would think. Lay em' on the deck and go.

I say straps would be plenty. About 1/2 the ones I see on chassis only have one corner locked. Or course last winter one was laying in the ditch on Rt 30 in mansfield and a $500 truck with an empty chassis was sitting just in front of it. Lol

You will need 2 straps per and still chain front and back of each. When I have loaded cans I always chain front and back and then straps enough for the weight. I carry a 20 ft can weighing 46000 lbs of "material" on occasion and of course empties. The method I described for the empties is the only legal way in WA, OR and ID

Empty 20' container I chain the ends and two straps over the top. 40' I chain the ends and three straps over the top.

If they are the POD containers then just straps, 2 over each and squish the crud outta them

chain them together through the bottom pockets. and then under the trailer to the other side. Cross chain the rear and front then run atleast 1 strap over each container.

Thats how I see the flatbedders do it around here, I haul containers and see it daily. FYI every lock on a chassis that isnt locked is a $1,000 fine.
