Mountains? Mt. Eagle or Sandstone Mt is about the biggest hill I climb. But with an 18 speed, larger turbo, ported manifold and a few other upgrades she pulls them just fine. I'm sure the cat lovers don't like my Detroit, but I like the fuel mileage. It's not broke in yet but at 70-75 I am averaging 5.3. I am certain I can average 5.5+ with just a little adjustment.

Sorry for bother you, I'm looking for built glider kit after drive POS 2015 Cummins isx15 for one year. I like my new star car, but not engine. So I try to built star car with factory installed Detroit 14l, but all dealers give to me crazy price, about 175k. So, Fitzgerald give me better deal for Pete with 12.7, but I care about pulling power, what I have to use true PA. Previous 3 trucks has cat 6nz, so, they was monsters on the hills. My current Cummins no bad, but I'm tired about false throwing codes for no reason, and it's only after one year owned(((

No bother. I got mine at Fitzgeralds, thru Rush Peterbilt Smyrna. It was cheaper for me going thru Rush than direct with Fitzgerald. They will put a cat in it if that's what you want, but so far I am very happy with my Detroit. Going up Mt. Eagle at 79,000 I drop from 17 to 15 if I don't get behind a slow truck, 14 if I do get slowed down. I run it in 16 up to 65 and 17 the rest of the time. I geared it with a 2:64 to run in direct 16, when I have time to run slower. When I need to run 70 or so I run it in 17. I probably will never use 18. Probably could have got by with a 13 speed, but I am happy with this setup.

Hey Banker, if you had a CAT engine would it weigh more? If so do you know how much?

I really am not certain, maybe 500 lbs. Just a guess, but I went with a Detroit because that is what Fitzgerald specializes in and the series 60 is known for fuel mileage.

Wow 2.64 on 22.5? And Detroit? What's your torque? I have like most car haulers 3.08, ups 3.07 because meritor, but fell like need one or two step down. It's about 1500 at 70 in 18, its a lil high for my engine

It is a very uncommon setup, but it works great. I didn't come up with this idea, Pittsburgh Power did, and they know engines. At 65 in 16 I am just a tad over 1500. This is direct drive and the most efficient gear. At 17 which is a single overdrive I can run at 70-75 1450-1550. Loaded I start off in low gear in the high side and don't need to split any gears on the low range. I ran the numbers on the Eaton Fuller website for road speed, rpm, rear end specs before I ordered it. The numbers were right on.

I run big moutains with my 3.08's. Takes a little getting used to and you're never the first one up or down the hill. I just move my seat further back so my friends can't see me doing the climb of shame

Also, any one know som setup for lighter sleeper stinger? I'm have western star with Cummins in it(more heavy then CAT) and Cottrell 7509, my weight is 44300, it's lighter truck what I'm has. But I'm try to built truck to stay around 42k, it's perfect to my loads. So, I'm thinking about Pete or WS with small sleeper and Detroit in it,chop roof, custom t&c headrack and Cottrell cx9 with truck package. Also wanna one fit longer frame, but don't know how it will affected on weight.

I agree I have a tractor with Detroit 12.7 and Borg Warner 171702 and it performs great. Pulls the hill on I75/I71 coming south out of Cincinnati no problem grossing in the low 70's.

I would think though that the CAT would perform just as well as the Detroit when it comes to heavy and parachute loads? Speaking of fuel mileage, obviously it would outperform on power
