Yep, it's what I have with my 04 Pete with same trailer, but I had t&c headrack, which is one about 800lb lighter then cottrell.

@Banker I see from your other posts that you have run a few different styles of trailer. Is there one you prefer the most? Are the other styles lighter than the highrail?

Once upon a time the lowrails were lighter, but there's minimal difference now. We have identical tractors and headracks, some with CX-9's (quickloaders with the truck package,) and others with highrail NextGen's (I think CX-11, w/o the shotgun) and they weigh within 500 lbs of each other.

If it was my truck, I'm giving up 500 lbs for the versatility and durability of the highrails.

I run a similar "concept" only on a smaller scale, I set my Pete up with an overdrive 10 speed, and 3.08 in the rear, tall 22.5 rubber, small 10.8 cummins with 425/1550 I run about 50,000 loaded and 9th direct will pull just about any hill, even Parley pass and some of the others out west, 10th is my tailwind run flat or empty gear, truck averages almost 9 mpg with 4 car hauler, even with buses I am deep into the 8's.

75 in OD is 1300 rpm, not much on a small motor, but it does well, and will outpull my DD13's with 342's but they are running 10th over to my 9th direct, and my mileage is better, same loads same trailers.

The concept is sound, just really need to know your equipment/load and specs.

I was scared of a highrail, but after I was in it for a couple weeks I loved it. Since I own the one I operate now I really love what I can do with it. Some people are afraid of putting pickups on them and I was also at first. If you hit something on it you are not following the line.

Kansas you also like to do things different than the pack and I think what you have is a very good setup. Sometimes it is good to be different.

I'm sure i had more pickups than cars on my last one. Raptors were the only real issue, getting one of those off #2 and back between the rails was always interesting. But putting a 15 pax van up on #2 without unloading the top of the trailer kinda makes you fond of what they can do.

I have seen other drivers haul 3 raptors but I am still a rookie when it comes to them! One per load! Lol

Thx Banker, I think the one really positive thing about having a small fleet, at least in my case is, I really enjoy trying out new things, and combo's, and not having to be on the road with just one truck has afforded me that opportunity, I think it is my favorite thing about being in business, seeing how far you can push that envelope!!!

Terry270, Hammer166 and Banker Thank this.
