It's easy to figure. First you need to know what you hauling and the swell rate. It's usually 80%,Unless the stockpile has already been dug out. You can figure 100% if it is. Dirt that has been in place forever has a compaction of 100%. Next figure what your truck will haul. You're not going to get the same load every time so you might want to average. But this can get sticky if you're hauling a lot of dirt. Same with trip times but you can get close if you use the speed limit. Figure everything, how many breaks and how often the driver stops. I'd used cubic feet or cubic meters, it's much easier than weight. I hope this little bit helps. That's the way we did it it in the Seabees and I always did it sight unseen and always got close. Of course there was much more in detail but I heard now they have computers to help figure a job. Plus I always had one day extra for the end of the job and the crew being drunk.
