I would give 2 weeks notice, but I would also be prepared to leave on a moments notice, should CRE decide to go that route.

That's a very real possibility. I had a company tell me to go ahead and leave after giving my 2wks. This may not apply to the OP but I would cash in vacation time before giving notice as well.Tazz Thanks this.

I doubt he has any vacation time built up after only being with the company for 6 months.

All I know is that it is never wise to burn any bridges. Keep your good name and keep your integrity by doing things well and thoroughly. I always give appropriate notice when leaving a position. You never know.....you may need to fall back on them in the future. Just my two cents worth.

Give a notice of any sort and it may be regretted. If you dont believe how intent they are at keeping drivers.... Give a notice and then hold on tight.
Taking the high road sometimes works with dirtbag companies....
The only way to control all posibilities of outcomes is to do it like this: Take hometime at the terminal the truck was issued at. Turn in a clean, undamaged truck. Take pictures of truck and email them to FM or dispatcher(email after resignation). Take the key to the truck to the department that issued the key and resign.
Look for no loads to your area with a 2 week notice. Along with cleaning fees, damage fees, service failures on your DAC.... all kinds of BS.
You dont negotiate with terrorists or dirtbag trucking companies.Last edited: Aug 28, 2011

True, and it shows up on your DAC if the company uses it. If I look at your DAC and discover you have a few DNR's and you changed jobs every 6 months, I'm going to be reluctant to hire you. Why would I waste the time of hiring you when you're just going to go somewhere else? The grass may be greener on the other side, but that's because of the BS used for fertilizer.

Granted job hopping is gonna hurt you. Especially if your just going from one mega carrier to another.
However the point of giving them a two week notice with proof of it is to show your character to future employers that may be concerned hiring a job hopper is going to leave them in a lurch by just walking.
That being said I would hope he has a new gig lined up prior to leaving his current one. -
Even if you feel like you don't need to give a 2week notice, its usually a good idea to do it ; professionals, regardless of what type of job they work in, act like professionals in all areas. And giving your 2 week notice shows that you are a professional. Good luck, and be safe.

Completely agree. Job hopping is one of the worst things you can do. Even though I'm employeed by one of the worst proclaimed OTR carriers, I plan to stick it out with them for at least a few years. When it comes to the main OTR carriers, you get the same BS everywhere. The only difference is the color of the truck and trailer, and the name on the side of it. It's the same BS, but given by someone else. The longer you stay with a company, the better things become. Nobody is going to hand you a silver platter with limited experience. Every company is going to lie to you and promise you the world to get you in their truck. It's no different from the military.
