The last good 389 was a glider kit.

What's replacing it?
How does emissions factor into besides a bit of an increase in aerodynamics? Bet its more because they can cut manufacturing costs using the robot built cab vs the hand assembled one.Last edited: Aug 20, 2022
MartinFromBC, aussiejosh, Vampire and 7 others Thank this. -
Maybe the a new model might be coming out, like the 399……….

Phase 2 works on a points system. Aero trucks with autos and adaptive cruise and lane departure stuff get more points where a long hood flattop is probably in the negative. When phase 2 is fully implemented the manufacturers will not be able to operate in a points deficit, and the point system goes across their entire product line. So if they want to sell vocational and specialty trucks then they need to make sure and sell on highway trucks that are worth a lot of points. It’s a screwy deal but also ties into the class 8 fuel economy standards and it’s also why the 579 and 680 saw a midlife update when the EPA21 engines came along.Bean Jr., Oxbow, Midwest Trucker and 2 others Thank this.

With each one they sell they should give the owner a numbered 24 karat gold plated 16 penny nail key chain for Peterbilt’s coffin.
