I think they're already there. Caterpillar's 797F haul truck runs an SCR catalyst and has been for several years.

Well dry your tears big guy .. cause I like what you got going there it's very tastfull.. It's got class.. they are polished up along with the elbows and stacks and it blends in nicely with that shinny headache rack ...
Them guards I don't particularly care for on a day cab .. they take the clean look away from a day cab ..
Well done Sir .. Well done !!!

I've thought about this quite a bit. Seems everyone in this area does the exact same thing. First order of business once they get a 379 or 389 is to put stacks on them, followed by bumper and visor. They'll add lights as they go, eventually ending up looking like all the rest.

There was a fellow that bought one of our old 379's. It was a 1996 with 1.3 million miles, and I remember when he looked at it. Our mechanic had all the service records from new. He told the guy it's gonna definitely need a radiator and hoses before he puts it to work. It also had a noise in the upper end of the motor, which was why they were selling it. The truck was pretty well shot, and the boss was tired of throwing money into it. So, this buyer knew full well issues.

A week later I drive by this guy's house, and he's out there putting straight pipes and a drop visor on it. Couple days later it went by our shop on the hook, and he's calling looking for a motor for it. Radiator hose blew out and he cooked it. Last I knew it was still sitting at his house in the weeds. But those pipes and that visor make it look cool sitting there. And he's now driving for JB Hunt

I tend to agree with you & @AModelCat but I know where there are atleast two 379's that don't blend in .. both owners are members here and it won't be right if I called them out
There are sheep and there are shepherds
    These members are Shepherds
BTW I like your story about the 379 ya'll sold.. cause those are the guys that get a sour taste in their mouth
And I like to knock on their door and offer to buy their chromed out boat anchor for .40 on the dollar and fix their mistakes the challenge to that is getting it bought before they let it corrode away to junk

Well don't look too close. I go through several SOS pads trying to keep the rust out of the rock dings in them. I'm thinking 7" miter cuts the next time, but that would be copying our hero! Maybe go back to stock, or stainless. Do they make stainless rather than chrome?

I've looked for stainless but not very hard I haven't had much luck myself and I bet a guy would have to sell a kidney to buy them
I was serious I really like what you got going.. I'am.kinda beside myself too because I gota put new everything including the Y pipe on the red truck you have seen in the shop .. I had it all figure out till I jumped on plan B I got going now
And my adviser suggests that I go with 7"s now ...
I also think our hero would give you the thumbs up on 7s with miters because it you..

I don't disagree. A well cared for 379 is definitely something I love seeing. And to those that do it, I have a ton of respect for.
What I can't tolerate is guys that buy one, throw some stacks and a drop visor on, while the paint is falling off and oil leaking everywhere and think they're God's gift to the trucking world. And sadly, that's becoming the norm these days around here. But then again, I'm stuck here in Central Pennsyltucky where I see a lot of clowns who've never left the area and think the world ends once they cross the Allegheny mountains.

Thank you so much I’m the same way… this truck I put the mufflers back on love the oem quiet sound with just a little stainless trim . I got a fiberglass roof cap already and that’s just about finish with the looks before painting the original turquoise color .. only thing major is vent window delete and visor and bumper .
