While replacing EGR exhaust gas cooler, later learned the engine block heater had been accidentally switched on.

IF it was indeed on after all coolant was drained and it burnt out, would it break apart and leave debris in the engine?

Not usually. The electrical element is what burns out, and it is encased in insulation and a metal casing.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the reply, Ross! Maybe I will get a little sleep tonight after-all. ha

And, After replacing the EGR cooler and refilling with coolant, I will check with an amp meter. I did check ohm's and do have continuity. At most, it was on for an hour without coolant, which is likely too long. Worry was debris. THANK YOU AGAIN.
