ahh yes i think your right, i was thinking the rest of the engine was just shoved under the firewall, looking a little closer now though it seems the exhaust manifold does end just under the firewall,

No its water cooled. It doesn't have intake valves. Only exhaust valves. Instead of intake valves They used a blower mounted on the block to force air thru square holes in the bottom of the liner. Every time the piston came past the holes it took air up with it let charge air into the cylinder.

i believe all the 2 stroke Detroit diesels had superchargers on them later one with the t designation on the end had a turbo feeding into the supercharger.
edit, i guess i miss read your post...lol
i tend to think of late model as in meaning less less than 10 years old.
later model in reference to a specific thing would mean to me the more recent version of what your talking about.
but late model typically means a newer current stylewore out, OLDSKOOLERnWV and Studebaker Hawk Thank this. -
Anyway the late model comment was nothing but a bit of humor. The 71 series hadn't even been available for a on road truck in over 30 years so none of them are late model.
Some random trivia for ya: the 71 series was first available in 1938 as an inline 6.wore out, OLDSKOOLERnWV and Ezrider_48501 Thank this. -
. Late model to me is in the 2000 year models. And @spyder7723 is correct, they been around for decades. The turbo addition on the 92 did help, still not a 1800 ft/lb tongue monster, but it helped. My 8V92TA is a 1978 model (transplant) in my 1977 Transtar 4200.
I love reading sales adds... For sale 2 stroke supercharged Detroit Diesel engine... Really, it's supercharged?. The biggest problem with the 2 stroke was all the self proclaimed mechanics with a can of "instant start" squirting in the intake, then you end up with a smoking oil blowing weakling, all because of lack of knowledge. Takes me tops maybe 5 minutes to prime my 8V after setting for while. Only reason I have to prime it is the check valve in the intake line is not seating properly. Be safe out there.
snowman_w900, wore out, Airborne and 1 other person Thank this. -

bbechtel16, J3trucking and OLDSKOOLERnWV Thank this. -
I have a '99 FLD with a series 60 engine whose casting numbers are missing (rusted off). How can DOT tell if I'm legal or not?
