I bought an old used septic truck with a CAT 3406B. I am fixing it up to put it back into service.

I was reading my owners manual and it said below 32 degrees an engine heater was needed/recommended.

What are you using for this? The manual mentioned starting difficulties below 32.

A lot of those old mechanical engines had a heater right in the oil pan. That’s all you need really. Others came with circulating heaters in the cooling system. A lot of KWs had both. Neither type of heater will do anything that a Tiger Torch on the oil pan for 1/2hr won’t. Just don’t burn the wires off the starter with it. I ran 3406A and 3406B engines in the north and never had any issues starting them until they sat below -25 for a while. When you warm the oil it halves the load on the starter motor, and you get oil pressure instantly when it starts.
