I crate motored my first Cat 3126B in my ‘99 at around 471,000 it had around 9,500 hrs on it. It ran about 50 hrs a week.
I changed oil every 8,000 at about 300-350 hrs

I just calculated the total on the ‘99 FL 60 from my record book. Total miles on truck 1,005,686.7
Total instrument clocked engine hrs. 34,719.9 on its 3rd overhaul.
Calculates to 28.9 mph. I’m slow and it did take me 16 years to get there. LolSilverBulletBand Thanks this. -

My truck is 2015. 5 years 31,800 miles per year average.
Found out today (from an longtime driver there) that oil changes/servicing is ONLY done once per year on the fleet trucks
How long will my ISL 8.3L engine last getting the oil changed every 30,000 miles ? Lol !Attached Files:

Ehh 30k on a newer engine is fine... Until it isn't, lower hours/miles oil changes are just better insurance and give you more chances to find things going bad before they become catastrophic

When you pull the dipstick do you hear ominous screams from hell coming from the sump tube? That’s way to long on that little engine especially if it idles a bunch. Too much time is being put on that oil. Those only hold about 6.5 gallons and 1 filter. Not twice that like the big boys.

And people wonder why it's generally a bad idea to buy used fleet trucks.
As far as where in the recommended range you should change the oil, manufacturers literature usually ties it to fuel economy; low fuel economy = severe service = more frequent oil change intervals, high fuel economy = normal service = regular oil change intervals. This covers high idle times (hard on engines) because your fuel economy suffers when idling. -
Our trucks get the living crap beat out of them. Not by us drivers, but the loads and environments we drive in everyday.
We haul underground water/sewer/electric pipe to new construction sites. Mainly new residential sites. Frequently with very heavy loads. 5 layers of ductile iron pipe is no joke. We take these trucks off-road nearly everyday. Plus, the roads here in Middle Tennessee are atrocious.not4hire Thanks this.
