I have a Detroit Series 60 engine and lately after upshifting to usually 10th but sometimes in 8th or 9th, the engine misses for a second sometimes it misses a couple of times. I can see a puff of black smoke in the mirror when this happens. Is this an injector problem or something else?
It does not seem to do it if taking the engine to a higher RPM when shifting, but I cannot say that with 100% certainty.
Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks in advance.

What tractor is it in? What's the year of the tractor and engine, and what DDEC series is it? (DDEC #2, 3, 4, 5,? And do you have a lot of salt corrosion in the truck? We'll need the info to help out..

Former Prime truck so not sure on the salt corrosion. There is some signs of rust on the truck, but nothing I would call extreme, but I'm sure it's seen some salt. It is an '07 Freightliner Century manufactured 07/06. As far as the series, that I don't know right off. It is a 14 liter
Other than the small hiccups, it pulls strong. I do think it was running a little hot and it maybe derated itself down in South Carolina two weeks ago, but I have since washed out the radiators externally (not flushed). I was noticing quite a loss of power then, but after stopping the engine to say get fuel or whatever, it seemed to run strong again.
Sorry for not knowing the series, but I can find out tomorrow. Thanks again in advance. -
After posting, I read the title and knew the jokes would commence.

14liter Detroit has a WASTEGATE on it. Sounds like the wastegate could be sticking some times.

My 05' Classic does the exact same thing. Detroit series 60 ,14L, DDEC 4. The first thing Freightliner will tell you is your turbo is going bad. Its not, soot build up in the EGR system most likely. I'll be replacing all hoses/ piping to, and around my turbo very soon. Let me know if u find anything out. Good luck driver
