Looking to change my speed sensor on 3406c peec located on the back of the fuel injection pump. I have the back cover off do I need to take the next section off also or is there a way to pull it out with just the first cover off. Anybody done this that could give me some instructions on this. Thanks in advance.

No one has changed one of these ???? Also wanted to know if its possible that the chopper wheel that this sensor reads off could come loose ?? I know these are older engines but someone has had to have worked on these I hope. If I pull the rack control motor out will I be able to see the speed sensor easier ?

OK so it looks like I need to pull that second section off to change that sensor. Anyone know if I can pull that and leave the rack position sensor in without affecting it. Also there was oil in the connections is it possible that it could short circuit and cause it to loose the speed signal ?? Seems it would be hard to keep oil out of those plugs as there in oil when engine is running.

Nobody has any experience changing one of these. ????? Does anyone know if I pull the second section off back of injection pump with the rack positioning sensor will it throw it off ? I just don't want parts falling out. Looks like with that section off it would be easy to change engine speed sensor. ??

Since no one here can help you, I recommend you go to thedieselgarage.com in the heavy duty section. Lots of guys over there with experience in the 3406 A's B's and C's.

Already did that no answer there either. It looks easy to pull off I just want to know if its going to mess up the rack sensor.

I couldn't tell you. The only C I ever had was converted to full mechanical.
Oxbow Thanks this. -
Yes the rack sensor should be recalibrated after you pull the second section of the governor housing off, if you put it together with a new gasket that could be enough to throw it off.
The reason no one has responded is that they convert to full mechanical instead of chasing these problems that show up with the PEEC, I would suggest that you should start looking for a pump and advance that matches your era of engine. -
That's what I thought on that rack sensor. SmokinCAT have you heard of any issues with oil getting in the plugs in side there. Both the rack and speed sensor plugs had oil inside the plug. I'm not sure oil would be enough to short out thru plug ??? Very bad design anyway I look at it but it was working just fine after I put a turbo on it last fall till this code for speed sensor signal loss. Maybe I can make a tool to reach thru to the lock nut. Wouldn't be the first time.
