terrible, go with a cummins or detroit engine
-
why is it terrible
-
repair issues, have a head for each cylinder and have coolant leaking around the head gasket. not a very good pulling truck if you run out west, and fuel mileage is bad if pulling heavy load. you will have drivers tell you they are great engines, but most of the time they dont own them. if you look at used trucks you will see the the trucks with that engine are always cheaper, because of issues with the motors. if you were going to run the midwest and haul lite loads they might be ok.

I pulled a dry bulk tank with one, through Wyoming, did NOT pull well at all, even grossing 80k, it was terrible.
-
did it get the job done? and is the truck still operational
-
And you're on here asking if a truck is still operational after one trip through Wyoming?
Mercedes are junk. CR England had them in their daycabs, and they pull like crap. They're city trucks at best. Even then, they're expensive. If you have a mercedes engine, the truck probably has a Mercedes rearend as well. And they are not cheap to fix/replace. -

OP, please search this, been beaten to death already, including my own real world experience of ownership etc.
MBE engines = MBE rear ends? Give me a break. I know quite a few guys running them and have yet to see one with MBE rears in their trucks.
Expensive to fix? Cheaper than my last S60, and considerably cheaper than my old Cat.
Tuners are a plug and play deal, run one myself and am plated at 117,000lbs.
MPG is excellent, repairs are easy DIY for the most part. The HG issues has been resolved well and truly with a recall in 07/08. New design on heads and HG's.
Cant be bothered disputing every poster so do a search for Gawds sake.
Considering what else was out in 05-06, the MBE just made sense to me when I spec'd out the truck. The first EGR Detroits were a nightmare, Cat ACERTs were/are junk, ISX's were having major EGR and MPG issues, and so on. Takes @1/2hr to block of the MBE EGR, with no codes etc, and it's done.
Martin (860k mile MBE owner, from brand new).madhopsoo Thanks this.
