Hi Largecar359, trade your 359 on a new truck? Just shows how out of touch that salesperson was. Can't really blame them for trying, I mean, that's what sales is all about, selling air conditioners to the Eskimos. If I was a salesperson(never happen)it should be clearly obvious, if someone has a 359, it's because they love the old gal, not because they want a new truck. The childhood story "Mike Mulligan and his steam shovel Mary Anne" comes to mind.

Hi j, I agree, I miss my '72 and my '85. Although, my '72 was kind of a beast( manual steering) and had no business hauling railroad pigs out of Chicago with it, I had a lot of fun, and was a good truck. My '85, I never actually hauled anything with it, but kept it as a hobby truck and would just go for a ride, if I needed to feel good.(special thanks to Hemmings for these pictures)

I was stuck in the Yukon a couple weeks ago due to trailer issues and I talked to one of the mechanics up there about Cummins. He rebuilt 22 of them last year and I think all of them were pretty much warranty, but Cummins seems to be stepping up to the plate. He was working on four different engines when I was there at the same time. He really likes the ISX 15 2350 and said that Cummins finally got it right. Knock on wood since I have had no problems so far in the first 59,000mls. The 18speed transmission on the other hand sounds like a metal coffee can with ball bearings rolling around in it. I had Peterbilt check on it and they said they could not hear it. I told them it starts at 1400rpm pulling a grade with a heavy load and those brain surgeons drove it around bob tail. I guess one of those days it will dynamite in the far North pulling a 12% grade.

Yea, I'm sure that emotional attachment plays apart in it as well. It's just hard to believe that the new ones off the line will make it to the 20 yr mark let alone 35-40 yr mark. I'll still buy new equipment, just no chance I would ever get rid of the older proven tractors.

Yea I would agree with that. We have a 2000 model 379 with a c16 that is top notch, but I still prefer this old 85 still drives like a new one but we stay on top of it too

I really would like to see either you, or Largecar, or MarmonMan make a video talking about your truck, walking up to it, get inside, start her up and drive. Kind of like a trucker's version of "TopGear".

    Awesome.

I love autos. Sports cars, exotic cars, muscle cars, classic cars, 4x4 trucks, rock crawlers, tractor pulls, motorcycles and semis. Thing is, I have to see them move. I can't go to a museum. To me, that's like having a smoking hot wife who wants some badly, but her old man chooses to sleep in separate bedrooms. It's unnatural. Thanks for the action vids.
