Nothing unsafe about not being able to read road signs while driving 80,000 lb at 85 mph. If they don’t let in these poor refugees to work for peanuts then they would have to pay Americans more. That would be racist! They should also be able to pilot planes and trains without knowing any English and if you don’t agree you’re a racist bigot homophobe. There could be 10 accidents like this every day and nothing would change except for tighter regulations for the rest of us drivers, no way in hell they would enforce English proficiency requirements. Welcome to clown world. Honk Honk!

supposed to be able to speak ,read and comprehend English to get a cdl some states are pretty lax . there's something about turning a 23 yr old that doesn't understand English in a truck with bad brakes in the mountains that just doesn't seem like a good idea , but what does seem like a good idea is to prosecute the owners of the company as an acessory to manslaughter as they have been cited several times in inspections for having drivers with language problems and bad brakes and maybe look at the state employee that issued a cdl to someone who was not qualified. when I was getting my physical this spring the nurse said if you cant read and answer the questions on the physical its an automatic fail so there is a medical professional that's guilty of acessory to manslaughter as well. the truth of the matter is that drivers cdl and physical was purchased by his company, and they provided him with little or no training and turned him lose ... the company will most likely declare bankruptcy and dissappear and start over again under a new name and authority with new imported drivers as they are a lot easier to tske advantage of

I'm more worried about truckers in bad health passing out behind the wheel unable to walk around the truck to do a proper pretrip and crapping and pissing in the parking lot . You know the ones with a Male Fupa and huge bottle of BP meds that are on a 3 month card . I'm still waiting for some proof dude didn't speak English or this just speculation because of a latino last name ? The only ppl I run into in this line of work who dont speak English are dockworkers . Carry on nothing to see here.

Statement or question? I will answer for you anyways. Yeah I'm a nation wide trucker maybe your experience differs from mine . I'm still trying to find a article or news story that's says o boy didn't speak or read English. Maybe hes just a bad driver with crappy equipment or he was looking at his phone , either way without a report we wont know .

If you want to know all you really have to do is read. Cops said they were able to communicate with him and his friends say he can read English fine

    You
you have no idea if he needed the interpreter or wanted the interpreter. Interpretor is your right and it’s free so why not use one?

Yeah, I just read that interview TODAY. Not this morning from when my comment was made. I didn't read anything about the cops communicating in English. I did read something about communication and what was said, just not what language, but it would seem he did have an understanding of English. At least some friends claimed so. But again he needed the interpreter or asked/accepted the offer and the company he works for did have a couple DOT violations for drivers lack of English. Up till today I wasn't so sure he had any English skills. Still in doubt about how much.
