You can do much, much better financially with tanker or flatbed.
With tankers your pay will be more consistantly pretty much the same each week instead of fluctuating wildly as with reefers. With tankers you should be able to "take home" minimum of a grand a week and with hazmat/tankers make $60K-$65K per year. Just the average flatbed driver can make over $50K per year; some do even better.

 

KLLM & FFE are now one company & FFE has tankers in the oil fields hauling water. Other than that, I would go with a tanker company or a company with a tanker division.

Conway might be OK. These days the reefer companies running teams might be OK, but running solo is tough with the EOBR's and long load/unload times.

K&B is a reefer outfit that has salaried driver positions of over $900.00 a week, as long as you don't turn down a load. If you turn down a load, you get milage pay for that week.

Greatwide has lots of logistics accounts. With those accounts your pay is more steadily the same week to week. I know some drivers working there that have been there around 10 years because the pay is steady and dependable.

 

No, haven't worked there, just aware of the program.

Apply with Greatwide; they sometimes waive their one years experience required..Apply and see what happens.

 

I say apply anyways. If its a position that will meet your expectations, why pass the opportunity to get the job? A lot of companies say no felonies, but will over look them depending on age or severity. If you're able to get hazmat, yours couldn't be that bad--severe felonies are probibited from acquiring hazmat....


Turn in the app. Worst they'll do is say no.

 

Based on my experience with GreatWide I would be careful. Not only I did not make money working for them when I applied to another company later on they denied I worked for them days after they called begging me to return. Cost me a good job that I would have liked Going from NC to Lerado,Tx and back to NC.
