Hey everyone, I am a maintenance worker for a school system in Kentucky and work a second job as a security guard. I have been working seven days a week with both jobs for YEARS.

I currently have a class B CDL with air brakes and I was looking into a truck driving job that paid well enough to support my family with it being the only job I need. I tested in a school bus to get my Class B CDL so I'm restricted to automatic transmission. I looked into re-testing to remove the restriction, and I also looked into ready mix driving because their trucks are automatic transmission.

With the Class B truck driving jobs do they pay well enough to be around 40,000 a year with overtime during the busy concrete and construction seasons?

I apologize for the long and complicated post. Advice on this is appreciated.

I don't know how mixers run in Kentucky but out here it's a seasonal job. Bad weather usually shuts down most of the concrete pours.
That being said, I know quite a few guys who run mixers and they like it. They don't want to drive anything else. They work every hour they can, save their money during the busy season, and make it through the slow times alright.

Puppage and Adam J Thank this.
