    Question,

When you arrive at a shipper or receiver and go to " off duty " for instance.

How far can you drive before the EOBR will catch you and change the duty status to " driving " ?

What is the drive radius ?

The company where I work has the radius set very high,so the truck won't be detected while moving around.

This allows us to run all day and just make it to the last shipper/ receiver before our 11 hours are up,log out, spend our sleeping time getting interrupted while being loaded, and moving around the facilities, looking for parking.etc...all the while not getting busted.

    Does this sound acceptable ?

You would prefer to have it cranked down so tight that every time a forklift bumps the back of your trailer you get a HOS violation?

Part of all of that is the fact that digital systems can't be set for a black/white moving or not moving situation. It's possible the thing could be giving you violations every few minutes (if not seconds) if it were cranked down tight enough in a strong wind. Digital systems need to be told where it's acceptable to make that transition in it's digital world that works with the real world in human terms. If it bothers you to have little leeway in what you can do, don't use it. Just sit in the dock, tell the dock foreman you can't move because you're out of hours and you'll get a violation... then you can wait for them to call the county sheriff to force you to move.

As far as what those limits are, you'll either have to ask your carrier or explore the length of your leash on your own. It all depends on what your carrier has them set to.

That's what my carrier does as well. Goes from "not driving" to "driving" after 3 miles OR over 25-mph. It will make that change permanent 5 minutes after the transition. You can use that to your advantage.

    Mev Thanks this.
