    With e-logbooks, can you manually switch to On Duty-Not Driving while you a motoring around a truck stop or do you have to wait until the truck is parked?

    I would assume that different systems vary on how they do this, but for the system I use...LoadTracker...the truck must stay stopped for about a minute or two before you can switch off of line 3.
    It will then automatically put you on line 4 (On-Duty\Not Driving) but you can manually go to line 1 or 2 if you want.
    If you go to Line 1, you can still drive around the truckstop at low-speed...however if you pick-up speed for an extended period it will automatically put you back on line 3.

    Again, different systems work different ways but that's how ours works.

    Thanks You for replying. I am pretty sure I will be stuck with Qualcomm.

    What I would like to be able to do, as soon as the truck is on private property(i.e. truck stop, shipper/reciever) I would like to be on OnDuty/NotDriving and not using up my Driving hours.

    I am about half way through reading the EOBR for HOS Compliance; Final Rule from the FMCSA Federal Register. I cannot read anymore write now. I am over on my Reading Hours.

    It does say that if a dirver is using the truck for Personal Conveyance, it will still record Driving Hours, but that the driver can 'annote' such before it goes to Driving status. I am hoping that I would be able to 'annotate' on my Driving status with phrases like "YARD MOVE-SHIPPER", 'YARD MOVE-RECEIVER" or "TRUCK-STOP" if I cannot swith to On Duty/Not Driving.

    We use the Qualcomm EOBR system. It may be programmed differently for you, but I can switch away from line 3 as soon as the truck slows to about 3mph or less (idling in 2nd gear, or around that), and then the system doesn't switch back to driving until you get up past about 15mph (seems like whenever i get into 5th) or if you go more than a mile or so at low speed.
    The system automatically changes you to line 4 whenever you turn off the engine.

    Basically, as long as you're not doing multiple laps around a huge yard, all of your wandering around at a shipper can be done on a line other than driving.

    It'll take some adjustment, but it's really okay.

    Some systems have line 5 (off duty driving).

    I know with the people net system one can go to on duty not driving as soon as one comes to a complete stop, and it will stay there until you go a mile or over 15 mph. One can even delay it from going to driving automatically too.

    When I was driving for a certain company, the drivers were authorized to use Line 5 at any speed. You could not be under a trailer while using line 5.
