Without bottom equalizing hose, there is no way for fuel to equalize with out running engine. When engine is running fuel pump draws from both tanks fairly equally. Goes thru fuel rail, whatever is not used goes back thru fuel equalizer valve back into both tanks, again fairly equally. If one tank is not vented properly the fuel will end up going to other tank. If amount of fuel in both tanks equal more that one tank capacity, then you will have a fuel leak from over filled tank. There is way to prevent this by installing 4 shut off valves on tanks, 2 on each tank.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
All newer trucks use a dual draw/return system and have pickup and return tubes that are both submerged. With fuel in both the tanks and the lines are full, the fuel will level in both tanks when the truck is level. Even when the engine is off. Purely a matter of science.
Of course if you remove a crossover from a tank setup that is suppose to use one, it wont.Snailexpress Thanks this. -
Mine will.
You don’t suppose a siphon effect could cause the return lines to equalize the tanks with the truck off do you?
It’s either that or someone is messing with my trucks. -
You guys take a physic course.

But I’m not saying!!!!!
This could get entertaining, and I don’t want to ruin it!!!Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I don’t know if I’m supposed to take a physics course or a psychics course.
Oxbow and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
