The fuel pump should make a ticking noise each time it pumps, that will let you know if it is working right or now. It will not start pumping when you first turn the heater on, there is a start sequence where the glow plug will preheat before it starts sending in any fuel.

Just watched some YouTube videos about disassembly and cleaning of the combustion chamber, and they say that I should get new gaskets If I'm going to do that. I have no idea where, since Freightliner doesn't service these things. I guess maybe online...
Anyway, I'm going to try the kerosene thing first. -
ThermoKing has the Espar parts
places to order online much cheaper though. MUCH cheaper.PermanentTourist Thanks this. -
You got to replace the glow plug screen they get carbon packed. Everything else is a waste of time and money. should be done each year. Go on you tube there are video's on how to maintain these units.
mhyn, IMSITTINGINYOURCHAIR and PermanentTourist Thank this. -
if you can't get it going eventually, the Chinese have copied these heaters and you can get one for about $150 I had ordered one to heat my little shed but when I got this truck it actually did not have a bunk heater in it so I pulled that one and installed it. it's rated at 5kw and does fine, some cases the heater will use the existing holes from the factory unit. If you go that route feel free to PM me or reply here and I can give you more info
mhyn and PermanentTourist Thank this. -

When it burns your truck to the ground because you wanted to save a few bucks, let me know how that works out. That is assuming you got out alive.AlexR_uz Thanks this. -
The one failure point common is the control unit.
These things all use the same exact design and the same circuitry with the same safety system as the Espar.
The fuel pump is very low pressure, enough to pull the fuel out and put it into a very small orifice in the heater.PermanentTourist Thanks this.
