Oh yeah we have some runs like that and to top it off the trucks still slow lol. Only proven drivers can run those runs. They don't just hand them out like candy.

On the extra board, we have nightmare runs. 600+miles, all back roads, no truck stops, and very dark. Albuquerque to Salt Lake city is one of them nightmare runs.

Longest one I knew of was Earth City Mo meet with DFW Airport. It paid almost 700 miles, actual miles was less but they had 72 MPH tractors. Still a very long week if they ran 5. Years ago they would have a mileage driver meet an hourly driver on some runs. The mileage driver usually ran quite a few more miles further than the hourly driver. When they started mileage jobs a run wasn’t eligible to be paid mileage until it was 550 total miles for the day. Old school Buster brown drivers were accustomed to hourly and wanted no part of change. They had no idea how much mileage jobs paid at first. Therefore some Hubs went to mileage jobs before others did.

Still the model, hourly guys meeting mileage guys. Or long hourly runs meet short hourly runs.

Please don’t judge for what I’m about to ask, when you have the manifest that has the hazmat sticker but placards are not required, would you still take it through a hazmat route? Can we take non placard hazmat loads through the 70 west of Denver?

If it doesn't need placards you're good

    Loveland pass sucks!

    Loveland. Ha.

Running with a guy years ago teaming who told me to just run it through, placards out.

Nope. He told me to pull over, and HE drove it through the tunnel, placards blazing.

I guess he wanted to risk that 10k fine more than I did. He didn't get caught THAT time.

So if we’re in that situation again but at other part of the country we can take it through a normal truck route?

From my understanding, if the load DOES NOT NEED PLACARDS, you're good. For a long time I was driving straight through Dallas with PLACARDS and everything. Had no idea you couldn't lol.
