I talked to an Estes driver last year, he was making $24 an hour working mon-thurs. Anywhere from 11-14 hours a day, but a nice three day weekend every week.

That’s the job I want! But they were saying you work pretty much whenever they need you. And the P and D, like I would be doing when I finally get there, would require one weekend day and most the days in the week. He said they were so far behind that everyone was having to do a lot more.

Really? I guess the being home would be nice. I just don’t know much about this type of stuff.

He had been there several years, but working four days a week, home every day, and making $65k plus a year is a good gig, especially in the South where the cost of living is lower.

I guess you have to pay your dues. They are supposed to call me back so I can do some more paperwork. If they do, I’ll ask them about how long it would take to get to that level and what the actual schedule is for drivers. I live about 30-45 mins away from the terminal, depending on traffic. So if I’m working 6 days a week at 12-14 hours, I don’t reckon I’d really get mulch hometime aside from sleeping in my own bed and spending gas money in the V8. Lol.

If Estes is trying to hire you, get on immediately. We are expanding. If they offered YOU a chance to go to THEIR SCHOOL, take it. I didn't even know they had a school until I got here. Pay just went up across the board for everyone. Local driver starts at $23 something. Linehaul starts at .5725 now.

I chose to stay Xtra board. Gross 22K... 3 months IN THE SLOW SEASON! I didn't stay out and came home every weekend, but a couple weeks I did do a strict 34 (my choice). 3000 miles here is upwards of almost $2,000 gross including your hooks/drops.

Combo guys do both p&d and linehaul and that time counts towards both boards whenever time for bidding

Thank you so much for this!!! I’m extremely wary of managers/recruiters. It’s great to hear from an actual driver. If that’s the case, I will more than likely do it!
