While I'm making decisions about starting my own gig I have been offered a seat in a big truck for a local gig. One thing, I need to get a TWIC card. I looked over the web site. Doesn't look too hard. Local office for me. $$$, fingerprints, background check, done.
As a hotchot driver, has any of you ever needed to present a TWIC card? Here in Chicago it's a big deal because we have an international port. Just wondering how the rest of the world survives with or without one.
Ever a need for a TWIC card?

Had my twic for 4 years never used it out of nj ny area

Depends on the port, I have had problems with Jacksonville, been on Riviera Beach a few times and never had any troubles. If you find an escort, and pre- arrange the drop with them, it makes life more simple.

Gloucester City, NJ is a port. It costs $15.00 for processing to get in even with the TWIC. Used to be $25.00 without, but that was a couple years ago. Husband has been there several times in the last 12mo, but I don't know the process now if you don't have it, it maybe more time consuming.
He has also been to the State Docks in Mobile, AL with no problems.
It should also be good for railstations.
