I love all these trucking memories, it's been awhile since I ran OTR and had to deal with scales all the time. Vito, the one about the sign saying "CLOPEN" is classic - I know I've seen that, I can't remember where though.
One time when I was in WI, a state I've had bad DOT luck in more than once, I got stopped for "dodging" a scale. A young DOT officer (always the ones who think they're about to crack the big case, know what I mean?) pulled me over on a state highway and told me that he saw me exit the interstate before the southbound scale, and for being such an outlaw I'd have to turn around and follow him back to the big road, get on going southbound, and pull into the scale so that they could weigh the truck and do a thorough inspection. I explained that I had exited onto a state-approved truck route which I was taking east bound because it went straight to some out-of-the-way town where I was picking up a load (true story). Showed him the orange highlighting on my trucker's atlas, and my notebook with the pick-up address. Still made me turn around, drive several miles out of my way, and pull into the barn. They gave the rig the once over until they found a loose bolt or something to write up, and sent me on my way. I said thank you sir, and could you tell me where I can turn around to get back to that state highway?
Ever blow by a Weigh Station when it was open?

When passing the Foristell, Mo scale the other day the sign switched from closed to open right as I was getting ready to pass it. The conspiracy theorist in me figured somebody was out to get me if I blew by it...so I went in expecting an inspection. Because. Well.....conspiracy....
Nobody bothered me. Pretty sure it's so I let my guard down next time.scottlav46 and Vito Thank this. -

Arkansas......
Has become MUCH better over the last 10 years or so..I'll tell you why,
In 1994,It was a SATURDAY,Yes Saturday night round 8-ish, Going East on I-40,West Memphis was OPEN, "Are you kiddin me" was all I could think of while I had 'Stone Blue' Cranking at a high level
I said '##### this',and blew it....Blue lights lit up the dark sky a mile or so down the road.."Son of a -----" was all I said.....Took my License,Made me follow him back,Weigh,AND logbook inspection,(We didn't have Level 1-2-3) inspections back then....
Moral of the story? 2 tickets,1 for Logbook not current, and 1 for passing open scale.......I think it cost me round $250..Which was a TON of money then!
Today,i don't even see that west Memphis scale do AnythingVito Thanks this. -
