iv been hauling some loads for a company this week they made what seemed like a odd request.
they said in order to keep hauling there loads i had to submit copy's of my truck/trailer registration, copy's of drivers licence. driving record, dot annual inspections, insurance and copy of my last drug test, med card.
they said i had a week to get it all submited (to give me time to get by the house as not all of that is carryed in the truck)
seems like a odd request to me. some of the items are kinda standard but really coustomer wants to see my driving record and drug test, med card. part of me wanted to tell them that is my compliance not theirs and mind there own fing business.
any of you ever had a customer request some of these more unusual items?
ever have anyone request

No never had that happen before. If you need the work, comply, You may negotiate a long term contract with higher rates to compensate for the shippers added protection.
mike91118 and jammer910Z Thank this. -
If they are signing the checks, then they have a right to ask for the stuff.I do not see insurance certificate listed, they always ask for that, some even want to be an ' additional insured ' , putting them on my policy. Same for workers comp..I have been asked for info like that on some of my contracts, and I always cheerfully delivered the paperwork requested. It has always been worth the effort. Keep the customer happy, and smile when you hand them a bill.

Some of that stuff is odd for them to want copies of. Maybe they have been burned in the past by fly by night operations, and it has cost them untold amounts to recover their product.

ask this shipper if this an employee relationship or an independent contractor deal ? the request for a copy of the drug test is a BIG RED FLAG

i did some loads for them last year and they were requiring copy's of your registration before they would load you. we haul divisible loads greater than 80k and they had been having some issues with trucks getting stopped that were improperly registered. that was no biggie hand the scale attendant your reg card weight in empty go get loaded drive back to the scale get your scale ticket and registration back. they would record your registered weight and only had to do that once per loading location. then after that they would just bring up your company name and truck number when you came in to load.
they pay probably on average 5% better than most. but they also have been a bit of a slow payer in the past. i submitted everything to there e-mail this morning. i felt like telling them to shove it but competition is greater this year with oilfeild work being slow a lot of trucks flooding into my market. I have nothing to hide but some of these things iv never had requested as long as i have been a o/o
things like insurance certificates/ add insured and a few things like that are pretty much standard before you haul a load for someone. never once had anyone ask for a driving record or a drug test. -

If you had not hauled for them for 6 months, I would tell them to hug a root. Too much personal information on some of that stuff. It is not their job to police whether you are legal or not.
