I was 50 miles from the terminal. Snap, no Clutch. I want to go home. So, Start off, Put the truck in Gear, put your foot on the gas pedal to the floor, turn the key, and off we go. To stop, I use the sound of my RPM`s and slightly give it gas at the right time, pop it into neutral. Repeat this process all the way home. But pace yourself, at each light and you can get through without having to stop. Using the RPM`s I got it in gear with no problem, while at a crawl, approaching a light.

Now recommended for Newbie drivers, make a service call and have them come out there to repair it.

Had this happen to me when I was operating cranes. Was in a little one and the carrier clutch went out. The boss told me to just get it back...said I didn't need that clutch. Was frustrated at first but once I relaxed I was able to get it going and back to the yard without too much trouble.

Tight old man had me go out on 3-4 jobs with that crane before he fixed it. lol

Hubby did this about a year and a half ago. But we were about 175 miles from home. :biggrin_25526: Nerve wracking at times, but we made it.

I lost a clutch a couple of times. Parked went to bed got up the next morning got all the early AM matters out of the way, got in the truck, released the air brakes, pushed in the clutch pedal and UH OH. Got it in the shop, replaced the clutch and left. Second time the sucker went out I got to the receiver, backed the thing into the dock, unloaded, left and went to a shop. It takes floating the gears to a new planet. Not any fun but remember this: It can be done with a little patience and thinking about what you're doing.

the funnest part is floating it into 1st like 50 yards before the stop light then creeping for like 2 min while hoping it turns green before you finally creep up there

:biggrin_255:I had my clutch go out one time, had van load going to Atlanta from Florida, had about 300 miles to go. Delivered load, went into downtown Atlanta, backed ito warehouse, loaded, drove about 450 miles, delivered that load, went home and had new clutch put in. Has 13 speed, was easy to shift. Just watched the stop lights, shut off and started truck in gear when needed. Only real problem was backing in at shipper/ receiver. Sometimes, you do what you have to do.

this is probably a good time to mention maybe taking along a small plastic jar, like a peanut butter jar, and filled up with various sized cotter pins, washers, (hair pins these look like a cotter pin, but one side is wavy"), screws, nuts, and maybe some machine screws. never know when an emergency kit like that can come in handy.....home depot, lowes has a great assortment of these types of fasteners.
