Thanks, I already know a bit about it, farm tractors often have clutch trouble but hardly ever have the linkage disabled. I have never had it happen in a truck either in 7 years now, and doing some pretty hard off pavement running.

I had the clutch almost give up with a good running Detroit in an FLD in the winter, I thought the wheels were spinning, because it acted just like that bobtail or with a load, and the drives were mismatched pretty badly. When it started slipping at speed going uphill on the Interstate, I knew what was happening.

Mr. Haney is doing high performance things with Cats, and that is a little different than a clutch wearing out, but the symptoms are about the same.

This is one of the times when experience definitely pays off. Learning to float gears is a skill ALL drivers should work at. Like the others that have posted here I have also had clutch issues a couple of times. Drop and hook, made deliveries and finally made it back to the company shop to have repairs made.

Saves the company money and saves the driver from waiting on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck.

    Wargames Thanks this.

Had a clutch go while going through Chicago. Drove it up to Green Bay WI, While driving it in the Drive at Peterbilt in Green Bay it had a part fall in a way that I couldn't pull it back out of gear. Braked it to kill the engine and was glad when the new one was put in!

Most I have go wrong was the clutch brake. Could not get it into gear when stopped. The clutch worked but just could not get it in gear. Had to start in gear then just went from there. I float shift 100% of the time. Don't touch the clutch unless I am stopping or starting.
