Anyone that has taken 5 minutes to research CR Englnad knows that they are pretty much bad news.
So, here I am asking if I can make lemonade out of lemons.
Back in 1995 I went to the CR England school of driving (yeah, right ) got my CDL, drove for them about 6 months and went the other "sons" company, Pride Transport, where I was for about a year. Then I went to stinky Dick for about another year. After my DM got canned and I got taken off my dedicated route, I really didn't have much of an interest in driving anymore, so I left. I left all 3 on good terms, good safety record and such.
I gave up my CDL many years ago, which as I see now, really doesn't matter, as I would need recent experience to get a new job these days. Times have changed and I don't know anything else, and I need to eat.
So, for just the low low rate of $1995.00 (cash) I can go back to CR England and get my CDL. This is the cheapest that I can find, and I would have no obligation to them with the cash deal.
AND FINALLY, THE QUESTION...
Is it worth a crap? CR England has such a bad reputation, will other companies accept their training to take me on as a recent grad/trainee?
What say you?

Keep one thing in mind..CR England will push you hard to go L/O...but I have spoken to many England drivers that say they are doing "OK"...it really depends on your DM, and you of course. If that is the best price you can find...might be worth the investment of the first 9 months to get there....about the same as you went through before!

I did excatly what your'e considering at this time. You have to proceed with the understanding that you will get your CDL, you will go thru what I felt was a great training experience, if you get good trainers. After completion of the cdl/training course (approximatley 3.5-4 months) you'll either run company team, (if they'll hire you) or your only other option will be to lease a truck. They really do push the leasing aspect of their business & I think use the "not hiring any company drivers at this time" to get you to sign up on a lease.
If you decide that leasing is not for you & if you're not kept on as a company driver, It will be tough to find employement with another trucking company because you do not have 6 months of otr experience. But with that said, I just went thru Swifts orientation & because I did have 4 months of verifiable employment, had excellent reviews from my England trainers, I only have to go out on their training program for a week before being cut loose on my own.
The bottom line, I liked doing the CRE thing & going with them isn't a bad thing, you just need to know the score before you go. -
I was wondering why you gave up your hard earned CDL to keep it you just need to pay the DMV fee and do the vision just like a regular drivers license, am I right? I recommend others to keep their CDL even if they give it up driving. Later on they might wish they had. It would have to be easier to redrive if you had your CDL even though you haven't driven recently. Especially with your past experience. Some companies require recent but there are local companies that look at just whether you can drive and overall experience.
That said, if it sounds good to you that is what is important. Would it be possible to get a learner's permit at the dmv and then find someone to team with who would help you schedule a road test at the dmv so you can get it that way. A lot cheaper and is it possible to rent a tractor trailer to take the dmv test ? What he said about joining the many who have cdl's and can't get a job because of lack of experience is true but you have driven quite a bit. I think it would be like riding a bike. It would come back to you quickly. Hope-ing to best for you. Believe me I understand your situation. -

I don't plan on ever hiring on with CR England, I just want to do my 4 weeks of class, get my CDL and walk. If I pay cash, I have no obligation to work for them and I am certainly not going to lease one of their trucks!!
I would like to get on with Schneider and learn tank, and then haul fuel locally in a year or so. -

The other poster is correct, I needed to get a physical to renew. I had not used it in 10 years and it was the last day to renew, so I just dropped it.LodiKen Thanks this. -
Correct. Why I need a medical card to keep an endorsement is beyond me, it isn't like a I drove to the DMV in a freight shaker.
Speaking of regulation changes, I am sure there have been many since I last drove, the biggest being HOS and log books, so I am OK with putting out some money to learn the technical side and refresh the skills, I just don't want to pay 5k for it at MTA or by going thru a trucking company CDL mill. -
