DJ, i'm sorry, but if you have a felony conviction, any recent dui\dwi arrests you will NOT be a truck driver.
At the very least not for the forseable future.
The big co's won't touch you becaused of your record, the medium one's wont because of your lack of experience and the small ones won't because of thier insurance carriers.
Getting the license will help get a job somewhere, local construction, dump truck work, something similar to that but not OTR.
Again I am sorry, but I don't want to dissillusion you either.simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
I'll echo the sentiments of misterG, if you've recently got off parole it will be a minimum of 7 years (in most cases) before an OTR company will look at you. With the economy they are even more particular when screening applications.
Not trying to dash your dreams, but do your homework before you spend the time and money getting a CDL you won't be able to use. Look at local companies online and check out their hiring policies or give them a call. You never know what you might find out. -
all the companies i talked to said 5 years for misdemeanors and 7 years for felonies from the date of your release of community control (parole). this is mostly the insurance companies that will not touch you. If you can find a local company or something like that and get the CDL yourself, anything is possible. Good luck to you man, but I wouldn't consider the bigger companies.

One other possibility is to buy your own truck and get your own authority.
Yes, you can get insurance and yes it can and has been done. -
uh, how is he going to buy the truck? how is he going to drive it with no on the job training? how is he going to know how to be an O/O with no experience? how is he going to find a company to lease onto with a felony conviction? how is he going to get insurance with no driving experience? what is the point in BSing this guy?
doubledragon5 and road dust Thank this. -
wow this is sounding like another fine mess i've gotten myself into.... now the insurance will be high because I have a felony? or because of my lack of experience... I guess I might have to go to Vegas and drive those desert trucks in the 150 degree heat for 7 years what a sentence... thanks fellas for the advise hope I can come back into the forum with good news eventually....

Check out Gale trucking in Corona, Ca. Local, bottom dump operation. They hire ex-felons. It's not OTR, but, it is trucking. They're right behind the fuel stop at Magnolia Off ramp/I-15. Not sure if you need experience or how much.

what they say is true-- it will be hard but not impossible. you can go to covanent or CR. England. the only bad part about this is knowing you are a felon they will pay you like a felon. I have 2 felonies on my record and nobody would touch me but covanent and england, once again the pay will kill you-- but it will gey you in the door.
