I just got laid off for the third and last time working sheet metal. I used to drive local and otr back in California 15 years ago--i dorve for 10 years. when I moved to Oregon I let the license go--I had no idea how hard it would be to get back. Now, I'm thinking of going back into it. Would I be better ot go through the whole trucking school thing or I could just get the license back with a short refresher course. What aoult those ads that promise a CDL and a job as long as you sign up for a certain time? What are the best companies to work for local or regional to Oregon? Thanks for any info

I can't answer all of your questions, but I will tell you that most of the answers are here. Just use the search feature and start reading. Welcome and hope that helped a little.

You would almost need to start over. I had to do the same thing. There are a couple co's that do not require refreshers if you had your CDL, but beings it has been that long you are beyond refresher courses.

I needed more than a refresher...combination experience within 2-3 years or a 160 hour training course..I think this is an interstate insurance deal. ... Ask the carriers they all say the same thing...
You might be able to drag some stuff intrastate for a few months but your going to have to pay one way or another..
