If it wrapped up and you start to unwrap and find a gun, at that point, I would call the police.
Second, if it is on my property in the first place, I would call the police. I do not live on the road for easy access.
At no time, would my fingerprints ever get on the weapon. Period.

You've been in gun control IL way too long. This is a crock. He may have not acted to the letter of the law, but as long as he had no malice and his intentions were good the worst they should do is read him the riot act. Hell he was a soldier. Not like he hadn't been exposed to much more sophisticated and dangerous weapons before. God I'm glad I live in TX. Couldn't stand having to have some one remind me to wipe front to back every day.Winchester Magnum, squirrellsgnwild, truckermario and 3 others Thank this.

Actually, I have felt that way even when I lived in Texas.
During the 60's we had a gun found close to our property line. It had been used for a crime, I am not sure if it was murder or not, but the police were really excited about it.
They had explained to us as kids the importance of not touching anything like this.
Why touch the weapon and get your finger prints on it, then have to explain everything.
Living in Illinois has nothing to do with it. I have too many certifications that are subject to loss with felonies whether accused or convicted.Big Duker Thanks this. -
I'm guessing they think it would be more cost effective to have the police come to the property, (with all their SWAT gear, no doubt) get the gun and then charge the property owner for their time and equipment. HE didn't charge them for his time to take it to them, I'll wager.

Stupid laws like this are why I want to live on an island. Good Gawd, this man had good intentions, but the law doesn't allow for it.
I'm just sickened that we have to live in a police state anymore. No one can carry a pocket knife, or they are a threat. (My dad carried a pocket knife every day of his life, it was a tool to him, nothing more, as it was to us)
Better not get caught with a hunting knife in your vehicle, you WILL be charged for carrying that around too.
Very soon hunting and fishing will be outlawed, because you need knifes and guns to participate in these sports. Just makes me sick that our world has come to this.kajidono, Winchester Magnum and Baack Thank this. -
The problem with the knife is
Yes its legal
So you leave it in public view, somebody complains
And you get a disorderly conduct ticket
So you hide it
And you get a concealed weapon charge
Sheesh

Actually the last time I got caught with a hunting knife in my car the cop just flat out stole it.
-
I carry a pocket knife and cross the border all of the time. It is not an issue.

Right now the leftist liberals would like to stay with the bigger fish, ie taking our guns. Knife kuntrol takes a back seat to this, so yeah it's still legal to pack a pocket knife. (I'm not sure about Chitcago, check your local listings)
Liberal leftist democrats are more usesless than career wefare recipients.
