Drove a semi for about 10yrs. and quit to do carpentry work, Now I'm looking to get back into trucking, recently passed my cdl permit test and have a dot physical card, so I dont need schooling, just truck time. Called a few schools and a couple offer the truck time @ $85-110 an hour but say I need a min. of 15-20 hours which I don't think I need. I'm thinking about 10 hrs and I'll be good to go

Any help, Ideas, what do you all think

Perhaps jump on with one of the larger companies to take a refresher than start looking for a real company

I don't know of any companies that offer a refresher course. You can take one for about $1,300 - $2,400. Most schools probably won't let you if you let your CDL expire, they will require full training.

The real problem that you don't even know you have yet is that most companies won't hire you if you did get your CDL. If you had kept it you would have had a small chance.

I know you don't want to hear it but you will most likely have to start over, full training and all. The problem is most insurance requires recent verifiable OTR experience or approved training.

Do a search on this site to find how many got their CDL on their own and couldn't find work. Some had ten years recent local Class B experience.

    Good luck.

I would do it this way. Your in a freight hub, ask in person some local freight haulers to let you tag along as a second seat. Talk to the boss. Some folks will be glad to use the help. With a cdl and medical card and your road time from the past you might even get a per load wage, or be a yard man for awhile. Moving trailers. It comes back faster than you think. I can talk to a driver and tell in 3 minutes if he or she is real or smoke.

Ya applied for several yard spotting jobs but they still insist on a cdl, as far as jobs here there are 100s of them listed everyday, lot of rail/container work, I positive I'll find work here, Its just getting that time in on the city roads I know my backing skills are execlent
