I'd Open up an Ira and make that money work

Good advice Slim. We are a two income home with my wife being an Rn and my military retirement, so a third income for investing and fun stuff is great.

Getting out of the house and on the road is a massive benefit. I'm literally going stir crazy being in one place for so long. I haven't stayed this local without moving since I was kid.

@19d - thanks for the info in this thread.

I am about to make a career change into trucking ( coming from construction background) - was considering Schneider Bulk to start with.

    Questions:
    1. Was reading in another thread about the collision system (forgot the name) coming on at times when one approached shadows near bridge/overpass ...
I can not find that thread again but, my question is does bulk have this same type collision system where it automatically brakes ?

    2. The chem suit - Is this typical Nomex Suit ?

3.Noticed you were having some back problems - Did ur back get better ?

Not 19d but I'll answer the two questions I can:

All Schneider trucks after ~2013 have had the collision mitigation. I hated it and was 1 reason out of many I quit.

Chem suit is Nomex but you'll rarely have to use it. More often you'll need your FRC and SNBC provides both.

Also apply to some of the other chem haulers in your area, you might get lucky and get on with a company that pays what it should right out the gate.

Hey - thx for reply. I am curious about this collision mitigation - have not driven 1 before - will be a new 50 yr old Apprentice/Driver...

I do understand, at times, there may be Numerous Reasons to quit, ... however, can you briefly xplain what you did not like about the "collision system" ??

Also, yes, i am looking at other Chem Haulers in/around Baton Rouge that will accept a new driver with no OTR Xperience.

As i stated above to ncdriver1 ... i am just wondering about this "collision system" - Especially in a Tanker ... seems to me it would kinda be a headache to deal with - or, does a person kinda get used to it ?

On your back issue - how hard is driving/unloading with the shape ur back is in at the moment ? Reason i ask is I have my moments with my own back at times .
Also, have couple friends- OTR Drivers who tell me they rather drive their rig than when they come home and drive p.o.v. - state the rig rides better.

I understand about the chem/pickle suit now - thx... Is the suit hotter than say MOPP Gear? (Ex Military Here) --- thx for your service.

Its an auto braking system. The one that was in my truck was set to slow the truck down immediately if it detected something slower or stopped ahead of me. It was just too #### sensitive and active all the time. When you were on cruise control on an open highway it wasn't bad, but in city traffic it would beep non-stop and that really annoyed me. IT would also trigger off of overpasses and bridges and barriers and sometimes trucks in the next lane over and auto brake abruptly, which was unnerving at times.

Out of the 1000's of times it was active there were only two instances that it actually prevented a possible collision, once exiting a highway into stopped traffic and once I was cut off and the ahole stopped short on me. Both times I was reacting at almost the same instance as the machine, just a little behind but still in control and it was NOT worth the headache the other 1000+ times.

My current company (Superior Carriers) tested them briefly and decided not to employ them for some of the same reasons.

I was thinking about the triggering part myself - I have not driven 1 yet, but that was one of the first things that popped into my mind - False Triggering - and how well I could adapt to that... Thx for info.
