OTR Drivers-
How many of you folks have gym memberships and stop on the road to get fit?
Are there any chain gyms that are amiable to parking a tractor/trailer in their lot at least during the time you're in the gym? How common is it that they'll let you park overnight when visiting the gym?
How do the gym showers compare to truck stop showers?
Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I've decided in 2008 I'm going to shape up and eat right, and if I'm looking down the barrel of an inevitable forced career change, I need to know how feasible the workout portion may be... and frankly, if the gym showers are better than truckstop showers and if the gyms will let members park their trucks, I might just route my stops into the gyms and only hit the truck stops for fuel...
I already know about the food situation, and would plan on bringing necessities with me to cook and eat right in the truck, mostly to save money but also for my health...
Thanks in advance for your advice and patience![]()

I stay fit on the road. I pull a portable gym behind me.

Aw c'mon... yeah, regular activity is good stuff, and I can imagine flatbedders get a ton of exercise securing their loads... but still, y'know what I mean!
-
I know I lost 30 lbs and they say that I am even better looking now!

Hey PTX thats adarn good question I would like to know as well! I have been training for 10yrs now and have come a long way with muscle so i sure dont want to waste it away. I guess I will be spending my weekends home in my hometown gym. Although I did think about taking some dumbells with me to do certain exercises during the week. You could also do push-ups for upper body.

Sure, push ups, crunches, etc can easily be done on the road, I figured that much.
30 lbs would be a nice start, it'd get me back to my ideal weight w/o muscle bulk, but I want to bulk and tone a bit too... I'm sure a lot of flatbedders will claim they carry their gym behind 'em, notarps. But is that gym equipped with hotties on treadmills with their equipment in motion?
But not just that... I mean, some of these nationwide chain gyms always seem to be mostly vacant with huuuge parking lots...
and there seems to be a lot of these places, maybe even more than truck stops... if that's truly the case, seems it should be easy to stumble upon one at least every 500 miles...
so I guess really what I'm getting at... if they'd let me park a tractor/trailer there at all (overnight or just while inside), I'd be able to get in a workout every day after driving, have a fresh shower without having to pay extra for it (or wait in line).
Anyone doing anything like this? -

Wow! It looks like some of you are doing great with healthy eating on the road. lil Daddy your posts have been great. Lots of good information. My wife is a dietitian so I know about healthy eating. I saw a talk recently where a dietitian gave a cooking demo to a group of truckers. Had recipes for crock pot healthy meals along with a list of healthy road foods.
She even prepared a meal for the group. If anyone is interested, I can post the information.IRISHGYPSY Thanks this.
