BUT, only if their are no preservatives of any kind in them.......preservatives may good for one reason or another, but being that it is a man-made product, it's something I prefer to stay away from, it's not something that they have been able to prove or disprove it's effects on the body as they still have yet to prove or disprove that cancer may be the end result.......without preservatives a person may have a longer life, there are those people on the planet that have never consumed it and they are living to a very ripe old age, living without any major health problems, oh sure people still get ailments and such, but, for the most part so does everyone else, without preservatives, those ailments don't come on until late in life, personally, I don't consume any preservatives, unless of course, I have no other choice for something to eat, then I will only eat a minor ammount, be surprized on what you can do when you're in a pinch, and the food there isn't what you prefer to eat, beside fresh fruits, fresh veggies, I keep saltines, wheat and rye bread, whole grain bread is good as well, but read your labels, the first five items in the ingredients will tell you if its what you really want going in your body, drink lots of water too, its good for your digestion, also helps to flush out fat cells, I'll drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning, make a gallon of unsweetened tea, always keep unsweetened fruit juces too. I'll be a very old bugger when they finally tell me to get out of the truck. A healthy body with the foods you eat and a little exercise goes a long way, makes you feel good.

Yeah I agree, and some also have a lot of salt, I buy a good portion of my food at a natural food store, I try to avoid most preservatives and artificial flavours, my mother is the one who got me on to healthy eating, she took many classes and read many books on it over the years, I have read about what goes into most of our foods and it is scary, I would not eat most of it,

I literally watched her get back to health from being very ill just buy eating natural and organic whole foods, so I beleive without a doubt that most cancers and illnesses could be prevented by eating more natural foods,

I once left a package of english muffins on the counter. They had been there for a few days before I took off and left for 3 weeks. By the time I got back by all rights I should have found a penicillin farm. Instead, there they were; looking as fresh as the day I bought them.

Needless to say, I didn't touch them. I prefer to eat foods with a "best before" date, not a half life.

I'm really into exercise and frankly that is what worries me the most about trucking, i.e. will I have enough time a day to work out. I realize there are no gyms on the road and neither is there time to work out. Yet, execise is a major stress reliever and keeps you alert on the road. If federal and state regulations where serious about safety, they would mandate excercise facilities in all truck stops.Meanwhile what are the alternatives? I guess dumbells and calestenics (though I wonder where you would do those other than in the sleeper?

When i was running steady over the road I carried a 2"x12"x3' board, a couple of cinder blocks to rest my board on, a 3' step ladder to rest one end of my barbell on and rested the other end on a step and I was in business. I packed bar bells, dumb bells and 150 lbs of weights. In the summer I worked out around the trailer. In the winter I used a set of tri band with handle band exercisers and 5lb toning balls for Pilates in the shower room when I went for a shower. Done seriously those bands will wear you out.

Eating in the truck is the only way to go nowadays.

I had a small shelf built for the end of my bed, my feet slip under it, and my TV sits on there, along with my toaster and microwave strapped down to it. I also have my fridge in the truck which I set to coldest and use as a freezer, and then I have a big plug in cooler I pack to the nuts before I take off.

I keep mostly whole grain muffins, brown toast, as much fruit as I can but you have to eat it quick, lunch meats. I also carry a plug in grill so sometimes I will BBQ steaks, burgers for a treat, get all the fat out of them first though so they aren't to bad!

I have eaten an entire month on the road for about $250, including coffee and that stuff. Other morning I ran into the Husky to have coffee and toast as I had run out in the truck, JUST for 2 slices of toast and a small cup of coffee, $7!

Make time, just as you make time to eat and sleep and shower. If you're really into exercise as you say you are, there won't be a problem. The truckers who say they don't have time or opportunity are the ones who just plain don't want to do it and are looking for excuses. Many many of us have found a way and we are proving every day that it is possible to be a fit trucker.

Good stuff man, I am a gym junkie and the only thing that might keep me from going back on the road is lack of being able to work out, I have a good job now but I am burned out with it, so give me some good cardio and weight training workout for the road, I also am big into supplements like superpump 250 and whey protein,

Hubby keeps bungy cords on his truck to use to exercise with. He's a health nut and has adapated it to the truck. I at home only purchase organic meat, dairy, produce, and we eat lots of fresh foods. Due to allergies and autism in our family, I changed our diet drastically, I elimnated additves, high fructose corn syurp, etc. My daughter is allergic to soy, want to eat healthy? take that out of your diet LOL
